Highland Park / Canalway Connector Trail

  • Three-mile-long multiuse trail connecting the Erie Canal Trail, Highland Park, and the Genesee River Trail.
  • Developed an understanding of the function and likely users of the proposed trail.
  • Explored alternative locations for the trail.
  • Selected a recommended trail route.
  • Produced a concept design and construction cost estimate for the trail.
  • Developed an implementation plan that identifies issues involved in implementing the trail plan, such as land ownership, atgrade crossings, wetland mitigation, and project funding.
  • Planning used scalable color aerial photos for mapping of proposed route and features

  • Master plan design for 56 acre passive/active recreation park.
  • 2,500 LF entrance road.
  • Parking for 85 vehicles.
  • Recreation/nature pond with fishing access.
  • Bocce and horseshoe courts (2).
  • All purpose athletic field area.
  • 1,800 SF recreation lodge building (2).
  • Hiking/skiing trails, playground, bike trail system (3,200 LF).
  • Restroom building, kiosk, and way-finding signage.
  • Picnic shelters (3).
  • Preservation of 25 acres woods, fields, and wetlands.
  • Nature trails and marsh boardwalk.
  • Estimated construction cost: $3.8 million.

  • New small boat launch, volleyball courts, parking facilities, playground area, extensive trails and board walk, accessible fishing pier and site amenities.

Irondequoit Parks and Recreation Master Plan

Town of Irondequoit, Monroe County, New York

  • Prepared a detailed inventory and analysis of existing parks and recreation assets.
  • Conducted an on-line survey of town residents to help determine needs and desires.
  • Prepared a needs analysis that identified shortcomings of existing facilities, quantified existing facilities and compared that data with NRPA and SCORP recommendations.
  • Interviewed school district personnel, municipality employees and officers, and county staff.
  • Prepared plans for proposed trail connections, new trails, and linkages throughout the town.
  • Conducted focus group meetings to gather information, identify problems, & brainstorm solutions.
  • Produced concept designs and construction cost estimate for three key expansion parcels in the town.
  • Developed an implementation plan that identifies issues involved in implementing the trail plan, such as land ownership, at-grade crossings, wetland mitigation, and project funding.
  • Planning used scalable color aerial photos for mapping of proposed park facilities and features.
  • Prepared a parks and recreation department mission statement and goals and objectives.
